Emergency Assistance Program

Community Connections is the name of our local Prevention, Retention and Contingency (PRC) Program. Community Connections connects resources with those families who hit a snag and need a little extra help. Fairfield County Job and Family Services works with families to achieve their goal of self-sufficiency. We use a common sense approach to meet these goals.

  • Divert families from applying for cash assistance to solve short-term problems.
  • Keep employed parents on the job
  • Take care of isolated emergencies before they turn into crises
This program is designed to help families with urgent needs which left unattended, could result in the family requiring public assistance. By helping families address short-term needs, services will be provided with the expectation that families will overcome the immediate barriers to achieving and maintaining self-sufficiency and personal responsibility.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Families who have a minor child or a pregnant woman in the household, and income are less than 200% of the federal poverty guidelines should apply. A non-custodial parent may also qualify for employment related assistance provided that he/she is cooperating with the Department of Child Support Enforcement.

What we can assist with:

  • Auto Repairs (Individual needs to be working at least 30 hours every week.)
  • Rent/Deposit for housing (Must be homeless or to avoid a court ordered eviction.)
  • Gas Vouchers (Until they receive their first paycheck.)
  • Education (Short term tuition, school books, supplies)
  • Utility bills (Need to be a disconnection status.)
  • Equipment for employment (i.e. uniforms, tools.)
  • Necessary appliance assistance (Refrigerators or stoves.)
What you need to apply. (Not all of the following information is needed for each application.)
  • Social Security Card for everyone in the household.
  • Paycheck stubs for the last 30 days for everyone in the household.
  • Asset Information: Bank accounts (checking and saving) and 401K for everyone in the household.
  • Eviction notice, disconnection notice or estimates of repairs.
  • Verification of a job.
  • Community Connection application completed.
All applications will be carefully evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
